Cross my Heart and Hope to Spy by Ally Carter FIC CAR # of Pages: 236 Cameron Ann Morgan is not any ordinary girl. Have you ever imagined being a teen spy in training? Well, that is exactly what Cammie is. She attends Gallagher academy for young a exceptional women. She is only a sophomore who can speak up to 14 different languages and is learning more and more each day. She can practically act as anyone because she has mastered so many different languages and cultures. With all that she seems to have a problem being herself. One year boys from Blackthorne institute for young men attend the school for a couple of weeks just so they can both get a feel for working together like they will have to in the future. The girls were a little skeptical of the boys because they didn’t really know where they came from and who they really are.
This was an amazing book. Just when you questioned what else could there be to the story, the author threw in a twist you would never see. The book just made you wanted to keep flipping the pages to see what happened next. This is the second book in the series with many following it. Ally Carter did an amazing job with this book, and I would recommend it to all girls. -C.B.
Fearless by Francine_Pascal FIC PAS # of Pages: 199 Gia is a teenage girl who does not and has never known what fear is. She has grown up never feeling fear, claiming its like she was born without that emotion. Gia is a foster child and gets placed with a new family making her go to a new school. She meets a guy Ed Fargo who stays as her friend the whole book. She frequently goes to the city park where there have been many incidents of gang members assaulting people. Since Gia does not fear them she fights them off. Ed finds out Gia's secret, that she doesn't tell anyone. She runs into a girl at a coffee shop accidentally spilling her coffee on her. Eventually we find out that this girl goes to Gia's school and is popular. Heather doesn't care for Gia after that incident and confronts her at a party. Gia's starts to hate her. At the park there are chess tables, and she finds a boy that decided to play her. She obviously has feelings for him, and he has some for her. They run into each other a lot, but the worst time was at the ER. Gia saw a gang in the park and did not warn Heather. Heather ends up in a coma and Gia goes to apologize. She sees Sam and they almost get into a fight. They meet again when they see their friend getting attacked in the park. Sam goes into the hospital and Gia remains unharmed. Sam decides him and Gia should not talk and he should focous on his girlfriend, Heather. –E.A.

Go Ask Alice is a fascinating book about a teenage girl going through many obstacles in her life. This book is a diary of an anonymous socially awkward girl that has to move to a whole new town, even though she didn’t have a lot of friends in her old school, she’s very frightened about what might happen. After a rough first school year at her new school (which is anonymous) she goes back to her home town to visit, and she faces a lot of struggles trying to fit in and be accepted by her old friends. Just like any other teenager she tries to be a people pleaser and peer pressure got the best of her. She wants to have good impressions on men. She finds out how hard it is resist peer pressure, how to be on her own, how to be honest, and how to act around with people.
This book was great. Most teenage girls could definitely relate to the teenager character in the book, which makes reading it so much more worth it. Even teenage boys could get a message from this book. I feel that it really touched me and that it showed me how bad situations can get and how people can react in a bad way very quickly. It also showed me how badly peer pressure is and how to avoid it. 360 pages sounds like a lot but it really goes by fast if you really are into it! Absolutely one of the best books I’ve read so far. -A.D.
Flawless: A Pretty Little Liars Novel by Sara Shepard FIC SHE # of Pages: 330 This is now the second book, Flawless, in the series of Pretty Little Liars. The continuous text messages from the unknown "A" continue and keep everyone guessing about who this mysterious person is and how they know the personal secrets of Aria, Emily, Hanna, and Spencer. The secret they all share and the unknown text messages they all receive keeps them bonded together holding onto the secret, but what happens when the lies keep coming as A begins trying to tear them apart. It's not over though until "A" says so. -A.F.
Salt: A Novel by Earl Lovelace FIC LOV # of Pages: 260 The book Salt: A Novel is set in Trinidad. It takes place before emancipation in Trinidad. This fiction book is about the tales of the Blackpeople and the hardships of their ancestors. One of the stories told is of a man who put corn stalks under his arms climbed to the top of a cliff and flies off into safety from slavery. The Blackpeople have a hard time adjusting to life after emancipation.
I found this book extremely boring. The plot was unclear and undeveloped. I had to reread sentences and reread them again! It took forever to read one chapter. Lovelace is overly descriptive and too detailed. Overall this book was EXTREMELY boring and unenjoyable. -A.O

They finally reached their senior year in high school where they would soon depart, when Julie finds out she has lymphoma. Sam, trying to be a good friend, gives Julie tons of support but tries to give her the space she needed at the same time. Unfortunately, as the cancer grows worse, Julie and Sam’s friendship starts to end. It wasn’t like they didn’t want to be friends, but with Sam taking summer classes and Julie doing chemo it didn’t work out. Sam still attempted because Julie was her one and only, her best friend, but Julie just couldn’t do it. This book highlights all the events that take place for Julie and Sam from each of their own points of view. It shows how strong teenagers can be, and the battles that teenage girls fighting cancer face.
I would recommend this book to any teenage girl, especially girls who enjoy dancing. Others would enjoy this if they have a personal experience with cancer, or know someone who has suffered with cancer. Although the ending of this story isn’t positive, some cancer stories can be. Anyone that battles any type of cancer is strong, and that is probably why this story is so touching to the reader. –N.S.
